Sports Afternoon

Yesterday afternoon we had a Whanau sports competition while our teachers were at an art workshop.

Mrs Habgood put us into Whanau groups.  We had to look after and help each other through the races.

We had to race with a lemon or an onion on a spoon.  Have you ever tried to do that?  It's really hard!

Our Whanau leaders were allowed to run with us and encourage us to keep going.

The 3 legged race was lots of fun. Some of us were laughing too much to run!

Tunnelball was great fun too.  There was so much noise and excitement.  We could be heard down the main street of Culverden!

We had lots of fun and made lots of noise!

Thanks to Drin, Laura and Miss Topp for helping out!

Hurunui Arts Council Prizegiving

Mrs Habgood and four children went to the Hurunui Arts Council Prizegiving on Saturday.

Room 2 won the 5-7 year age group category with our 'Keeping Out the Cold' class entry.

Millie-Jane, Seba,  Ronan and Molly collected our prize which was a fantastic game called Hooop!

This morning the rest of the class got to see our prize.  We were all very excited!

Thank you to the Hurunui Arts Council and to Mrs B who helped us with our creation.

Kate Valley Trip

Last week Room 2 visited Kate Valley Landfill with Room 1 and 6.

We saw Kate Valley landfill where all our waste goes.

We learned how the landfill is made to look like hills once the cell has been filled with waste.

The boys really loved the big trucks!

We all really enjoyed the bus trip!

Who is that rather large student in the back seat???

After our visit we went to Waipara School for lunch and a talk.  They had a very cool playground to play on there.

We had a great trip to Kate Valley.  We learned to reduce, reuse and recycle to stop Kate Valley getting so full of waste.

Thanks to the parents who came with us and for driving our bus Mr Wilkinson!

Making a Worm Farm!

Worms are amazing!  Did you know that?

Room 2 learned all about worm farms with Lesley yesterday.

Worms live in newspaper which we can recycle.  We helped Lesley make the worms a place to sleep and a place to have their babies.

We learned that the worms needed for a worm farm are called Tiger Worms.

All the materials used in our worm farm were recycled.

Lesley told us a trick for deciding if worms like specific foods.  If you have cut on your hand and you can put a piece of food against it and it doesn't sting then the worms will eat it.  So oranges get a big NO and apple cores get a big YES!

We are looking forward to taking good care of our worms!  Thanks Lesley!

Jump Jam!

Jump Jam is an aerobics programme written especially for children. Year 1-6 do Jump Jam on a Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9am.

We have lots of different songs like 'Who Let the Dogs Out?' and 'The Candyman'.

On these frosty winter mornings it helps us to keep fit and to keep warm!

We love Jump Jam in Room 2!

Year 1-6 Amuri's Got Talent!

Room 2 had two very brave entrants in our annual Amuri's Got Talent Quest.

Millie-Jane sang a beautiful song by Taylor Swift and Ronan choreographed his own dance to 'Who let the Dogs out?'

Well done to both of you!
Room 2 and Mrs Habgood are very, very proud of your efforts!

Disco Fun!

Last Friday night the Year 13
PE students held a disco for the Year 1-6 students.

The theme was neon and there were plenty of bright colours on display.

The glow sticks and bracelets were very popular and made great photographs!

Miss Wilkinson got out her dancing moves and joined in!

The limbo was very popular!

Balloons, lollipops and noise!  FUN!!

We all had a great time.  Thanks to the PE students for hosting us!

More Chocolate Factories...

Myla and Molly have built their versions of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory!

Molly created her factory to be HUGE. We hope there will be plenty of room for all that chocolate inside Molly!

Myla added features to her factory.  She remembered that Willy Wonka had the red carpet rolled out for his special guests and made a red carpet for her factory. Very clever Myla!

We are really enjoying listening to 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

Music in Room 2

In Room 2 we love learning music with Ms Thomas.  She taught us this new song.

We performed today for Mrs Habgood!

She thought we were amazing!  We are going to perform at our next assembly.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Mrs Habgood is reading us 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl.  We love it!

Mollie and Amalia came to school this morning with their own chocolate factories they made at home.  We thought they were very clever.

We wished they were real!

Fonterra Milk in Schools

Today was the first day of our Fonterra Milk in Schools Programme.

Room 2's milk monitor is Rana-Jay.

She brought our milk to our classroom at fruit break.

We drink the milk at our desks.  The things to remember are drink it dry...fold it flat...and send it back!

Amalia, Anuhas and Alex 'drink it dry'!

Pema and Molly are learning how to 'fold it flat'.   Luke is demonstrating how to 'send it back'.

We will be having milk on a Tuesday and a Thursday.
We are looking forward to next Tuesday already!

Book Week Dress Up Day!

Today was the end of our Book Week at Amuri.

We had a special assembly today and we dressed up as our favourite book character.

Primary Assembly

Our very special judges were our teacher Mrs Baldwin, pictured here on the left.  (Miss Wilkinson's hair isn't real!)

Mrs Baldwin and Miss Wilkinson

And the other judge was...

The most famous rodent in the world!

Geronimo Stilton!  He came all the way back in his Cheesemobile to judge our best dressed character competition.  Thanks Geronimo!

Alex came dressed as Ned Land from 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'.  This was his dad's book.

Molly was an angel with a sparkly halo.

Congratulations to Ronan (aka Zac Powers) and Myla (mermaid).  Geronimo looks tired out from all his judging!
